This is one of the least visited regions of Greece and it has a little of everything. There are wonderful walks to be had in the Vikos Gorge, the Pindos Mountains, and wetlands around Mesolongi. The most famous classical ruin is Delphi and there can be fewer more fascinating and beautiful ancient sites anywhere in the world. There are a host of Byzantine treasures from the Monastery of Osios Loukas to the splendour of the monasteries at Meteora towering from their pinnacle cliffs. For the traveller seeking hidden Greece look no further than the region of Epirus, which is filled with hidden hamlets, stunning churches and delicious local food.
